Combating Sediment Together

Combating Sediment Together

Facilitated by Perth NRM, the Sediment Task Force represents a collaborative approach to managing the issue of sediment. The Sediment Task Force encourages the development of solutions to prevent sediment run-off. The Sediment Task Force is funded by the Department of Parks and Wildlife. A multi-partisan group, it has representatives from leading housing industry groups, government agencies and environmental community groups.

The Task Force recently met to discuss innovative research into sediment runoff from building sites.  This research is a collaborative project between the University of Western Australian (UWA), the Cooperative Research Centre and the Sediment Task Force. The desired output of the study is to determine the effective deposition rates of sediment for each phase for construction (per square metre) to inform construction behaviours. This will enable the prediction of sediment export from various construction sites and activities, under different meteorologic conditions.
